Accessibility

Effective date: May 23, 2026

Last updated: May 23, 2026

romp. is built to be usable by everyone — including people who navigate with a keyboard, use a screen reader, prefer larger text, or rely on assistive technology. This page describes what we do today, where we're still improving, and how to tell us when something gets in your way.

1. Our commitment

We want every dog parent to be able to find a great park or trail on romp., no matter how they use the web. Accessibility isn't a checklist — it's part of how we design, build, and review every feature.

Found a barrier? Email hello@roostcreativecoop.com and we'll respond within 5 business days.

2. Standards we follow

  • WCAG 2.1 Level AA — we target the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 at Level AA across the romp. site.
  • Section 508 — we align with US Section 508 requirements for digital accessibility.
  • Ongoing audits — accessibility is reviewed on every release and audited end-to-end at least twice a year.

3. Accessibility features

  • Keyboard navigation: every interactive element can be reached and operated with a keyboard alone.
  • Skip-to-content link appears on focus so screen reader and keyboard users can jump past the header.
  • Screen reader support: semantic HTML, descriptive labels, and ARIA where the native semantics aren't enough.
  • Visible focus indicators on links, buttons, and form controls.
  • Color contrast: body text and UI controls meet or exceed WCAG AA contrast ratios.
  • Reduced motion: animations are minimized when your system requests reduced motion.
  • Responsive text: the layout reflows down to 320px wide and supports browser zoom up to 200%.
  • Alt text on meaningful images; decorative images are hidden from assistive technology.

4. Known limitations

We want to be honest about what isn't fully accessible yet.

  • Embedded Google Maps have limited screen reader support — we provide a text-based search as an alternative for finding parks without using the map.
  • User-uploaded photos may not always include alt text, since they're contributed by other users. Park names, ratings, and amenity lists are always available as text.
  • Third-party content (Google Places data, Unsplash photos) is rendered as provided and may not always meet our internal standards.

5. Feedback and help

If something on romp. is hard to use, or you'd like an alternative format, please tell us. Your feedback directly shapes what we fix next.

Help us improve this page. If you have ideas for how we should describe our accessibility work, we'd love to hear them at the same address.
